With just one month to go until the opening of the Paris Olympics, Saori Miyazaki, a graduate of St. Catherine Gakuen High School in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, was selected to represent Japan in the women’s basketball team on the 25th. She will be aiming to win a medal for the second consecutive Olympics.
The Japan Basketball Association has announced the members of the Japanese national team that will compete in the Paris Olympics. Saori Miyazaki has been selected.
Miyazaki is 28 years old and graduated from St. Catherine Gakuen High School. He is one of the fastest point guards in the world and contributed to Japan’s silver medal win at the Tokyo Olympics. In Paris, he will aim to win a medal for the second consecutive Olympics.
The Paris Olympics will open on July 26th. Japan will play against Germany, the United States, and Belgium in the group stage.
Other athletes from Ehime Prefecture are also expected to win medals.
Kyotaro Sogabe (from Imabari City), a Greco-Roman wrestler in the 67 kg class, and Maho Kakita (from Matsuyama Gakuin High School), a cyclist, have each been selected to represent Japan at the Olympics for the first time.
In men’s golf, Hideki Matsuyama (from Matsuyama City), who placed fourth in the last Tokyo tournament, has qualified to participate based on his Olympic ranking, which is based on his world ranking.
