August 18, AFP – Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on the 18th that its air defense forces shot down a Ukrainian military drone that flew over the capital Moscow.
The Ukrainian military attacked “targets in Moscow city and oblast using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)” around 4 a.m. (10 a.m. Japan time), the ministry said in a Telegram post. “The plane changed course after being intercepted by air defense weapons and crashed into a non-residential building.”
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also posted on Telegram that emergency authorities were at the scene, but there were no expected casualties. “The remains of the UAV fell around the Expo Center, but there was no major damage to the facility.”
Meanwhile, state news agency TASS quoted emergency authorities as saying that part of the wall of the centre’s pavilion collapsed, covering an area of ”approximately 30 square meters”. (c)AFP
