After more than two years of military aggression against Ukraine, Russia admitted on Friday, March 22, that the country is in a “state of war”.
A pro-Kremlin newspaper quoted Dmitry Pskov, the spokesman of the Russian president, as saying: “We are in a state of war.” Acknowledging that Moscow would be in a state of war if it carried out large-scale attacks in Ukraine using missiles and drones.
Earlier, the Russian authorities referred to what the West called a full-scale war as “special military operations”.
However, Pskov said: “Yes, this (Russian offensive against Ukraine) will be launched as a special operation.”
Moscow has often accused the West of being directly involved in the conflict by supplying arms to Ukraine.
Russia recently launched nearly 90 missiles and more than 60 heavy “kamikaze” missiles designed by Iran over Ukraine. These attacks will cause a lot of damage to energy facilities, including power plants. Ukrainian authorities have said that the target of these attacks was Russia, to paralyze the electricity network and system of the center of the country’s heat.
Russia, however, said that these attacks were “retaliation” against a series of attacks by Ukraine in the central regions of the country in recent weeks.
The Ministry of Interior of Ukraine and local authorities said that as a result of these Russian attacks, at least five people were killed and more than 20 others were injured.
On Friday, the Ministry of Defense of Russia called the recent attacks in Ukraine as retaliation attacks and claimed that these attacks targeted Ukraine’s energy facilities, military-industrial complex, railway centers and stockpiles of weapons and ammunition. The ministry said that all the major goals are under consideration, and the campaigns are aimed at them.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia has also said that many installations of the electricity system, including thermal and water power plants, as well as the main power lines of the region have been damaged and added that the attacks have caused power cuts in seven regions.
Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, on Friday once again asked the West to increase its military support for the country. President Zelensky also criticized the Western countries and said that the “indecisive” political West is causing the loss of Ukrainian lives.
Since the beginning of Russia’s military offensive against the country, Ukraine has relied on military and financial aid from the West, especially the United States. Because the US Congress has not yet approved the 60 billion dollar aid package for Kaif.
According to President Zelensky, contrary to the package of military aid for Ukraine, the procurement of Russian missiles will not be delayed and Iran’s “witness” drones will also provide an opportunity for Russia.
Zelinsky added: “We need air defense support to defend people, infrastructure, houses and dams. Our partners will know exactly what is needed. They will definitely be able to support me… Protect Moscow from these inhumans.”
The Air Defense Forces of Ukraine said that they intercepted and destroyed 37 of the 88 missiles launched by Russia at night, and destroyed 55 of the 63 drone attacks.
Oleg Sengubov, the governor of Kharkov region, said that if these attacks were caused, nearly 700,000 people in the northeastern regions of Kharkov would face power cuts.
