Belarusian Foreign Minister Ryzhenkov said on the 2nd that a security treaty with Russia that specifies the principles for the use of nuclear and conventional weapons is scheduled to be signed in December of this year. This will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Creation of a Union State. Belarusian state news agency BelTA reported.

Ryzhenkov said cooperation between the two countries had “reached a historic level” through the lines of President Putin and President Lukashenko, and that the new treaty would also include principles on defense methods.

Russia, citing the continued development of nuclear weapons by the West, is considering revising its military doctrine, which stipulates the conditions for nuclear use. (Kyodo News)
