JAKARTA – The Russian military attacked Ukraine with more than 200 missiles and drones on Monday, August 26, 2024. The massive attack killed seven people and damaged power facilities across Ukraine.

Poland, a NATO member neighboring Ukraine, reported that a drone had entered its airspace.

Quoting a Reuters report, Tuesday (27/8/2024), the Russian attack has resulted in power outages and stopped clean water supplies in many areas in Ukraine, including parts of Kyiv.

Ukrainian officials say the attacks were the first to target the power grid or other critical infrastructure across the country since Russia’s full-scale invasion two years ago.

Russia has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine’s power grid since March, in what Kyiv sees as an attempt to undermine the power system ahead of the winter when people are most in need of electricity and heating.

The Russian Air Force reportedly shot down 102 of the 127 missiles that entered Ukraine and 99 of the 109 drones.

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said on Telegram that the Russian air, land and sea strikes were the most massive since the two countries’ war.
