Representatives of the United Nations Security Council met with the victims of the Gaza war in Egypt today, Monday, December 11 (20th).
The unofficial one-day trip, organized by the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, comes amid a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has described as a “graveyard.”
About 12 ambassadors from different countries, including Russia and Great Britain, are participating in this trip.
However, the United States rejected the United Nations Security Council resolution for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, and did not send its representative on this trip.
These representatives visited a hospital in the city of Arish, which is located near the Rafah crossing in Gaza. This hospital treats people who have been evacuated from war zones.
Among the victims, representatives of the United Nations Security Council met Wafa Asad, 27, a resident of Gaza. This woman was pregnant when her destination was hit by Israeli airstrikes.
Alaa, sister Wafa said that her sister’s husband was killed in the attack and her two nieces were injured.
He added that his sister was transferred to Egypt for treatment, where the doctors were forced to amputate one arm and one leg, and she gave birth a few hours later.
Alaa said: “My message will be the United Nations if we want the war to stop.”
Jose de la Gasca, Ecuador’s representative in the United Nations Security Council, told AFP that after visiting this hospital, “I was completely destroyed.”
He added: “I met a young mother who had lost her child and her little daughter was injured. This is horrible. I never want to see what I saw again.”
These diplomats are also going to visit the Rafah crossing. Through this crossing, which is under strict control, only foreign citizens and seriously injured people can cross from Gaza to Egypt.
According to Israeli officials, Hamas killed 1200 people and took 240 hostages during its attack, of which 138 people are still in captivity.
The Health Ministry of Hamas has said that as a result of Israel’s aerial and ground attacks, around 18,000 people have been killed, most of them women and children.
