Reuters reported on the 5th (local time) that U.S. mobile chip manufacturer Qualcomm is exploring the possibility of acquiring a portion of the design business unit of semiconductor company Intel, which has been struggling due to poor performance.

According to the report, one source said Qualcomm executives are looking at all of Intel’s design businesses, but are particularly interested in its client PC design business.

Qualcomm management is reportedly not considering acquiring Intel’s other business units, such as its server division.

The source added that Qualcomm has been considering acquiring some of Intel’s business units for several months, but that neither the interest nor the acquisition plans are set in stone.

An Intel spokesperson said Qualcomm had not approached them about a possible acquisition and that the company was focused on its PC business.

Qualcomm declined to comment.
