A survey found that if you prepare this year’s Chuseok table at a traditional market, you can buy it for nearly 20% cheaper than at a large supermarket.
On the 6th, the Small Business Corporation announced the results of a price comparison survey of 27 Chuseok ancestral rite items conducted at 37 traditional markets and 37 large marts nearby from the 26th to the 30th of last month.
According to the survey results, the average cost of preparing a Chuseok ancestral rite table for 4 people this year was 298,313 won at traditional markets, which was 72,784 won (19.6%) cheaper than large marts (371,097 won).
By product, it was found that traditional markets had lower prices than large marts in the following order: vegetables (51.2%), seafood (36.4%), and meat (21.1%). In particular, products where traditional markets had a price advantage were kandoraji (67.1%), bracken (66.9%), frozen pollack (47.2%), spinach (45.0%), jujube (43.4%), and bean sprouts (37.1%).
On the other hand, for apples, pears, tofu, flour (all-purpose flour), and alcohol (cheongju), prices at large marts were found to be lower than at traditional markets.
On this day, Park Seong-hyo, the chairman of the Small Business Market Promotion Agency, said, “If you use mobile and card-type Onnuri gift certificates, you can prepare the ancestral rite table at a discount of up to 10% (up to 2 million won per person),” and added, “I hope you prepare the ancestral rite table economically at the traditional market.”
