The English Premier League on Monday rejected Nottingham Forest’s appeal against the four-point deduction it imposed on them for breaching the league’s financial regulations.

The result means Forest remain in 17th place with 29 points, three points above the relegation zone, with two league games remaining this season.

Forest were penalised in March for exceeding the £61 million loss threshold set by the Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) by £34.5 million and the club immediately indicated it would appeal, but an independent appeals committee upheld the original penalty which related to the three-season assessment period up to 2022-23.

Normally, Premier League clubs are allowed to lose up to £105 million over a three-year period, but that is reduced by £22 million for each season they play in the Championship League (second division). Forest, who will be promoted to the Premier League in May 2022, have been in the Championship for two of the three-year assessment period. (c)AFP
