London – Priti Patel, who is of Indian origin, was eliminated in the first round of the race for the leadership of the Conservative Party (Tory). Priti Patel, a former home secretary and the party’s senior Asian face, managed just 14 votes in the first round of polling among MPs. Priti Patel, who got the least number of votes, was eliminated from the competition.
Former immigration minister Robert Generic received the most support in the first round of voting among MPs. 28 people voted in favor of Robert. Kemi Badnoch who got 22 votes is in second place. James Cleverley-21, Tom Twigintack-17 and Mel Stride-16 were the other contestants.
Re-voting among MPs will continue in the coming days. The person who gets the least number of votes is eliminated in each round and the final two candidates are left to compete among the party members. The second poll among the MPs will take place next Tuesday. These polls will be completed before the party’s national conference at the end of September. The two remaining candidates will get a chance to address the party conference and explain their policies.
The last round of voting will be on October 31.
