The German dictator who died 80 years ago was remembered by the spectators during the ongoing Olympics in Paris. During the match of the Israeli team against Paraguay, some groups of spectators shouted slogans of Heil Hitler and also gave the Nazi salute. The Israeli team was practicing for the match when the spectators started shouting Hitler’s name. The Israeli team was also booed by this group of spectators on July 27, when the Israeli team stood up for their country’s national anthem.
To show their anger towards Israel, many of these people were holding Palestinian flags in their hands and many were giving Nazi salute in front of the team. Many people were holding a cardboard on which “Genocide Olympics” was written. This went on for some time, after which the security guards stopped this anti-Israel protest and when they did not listen, these people were thrown out of the ground. After this the match was played peacefully. However, in this match of Group D, Paraguay defeated Israel 4-2.
“During the men’s football match between Israel and Paraguay at the Parc des Princes on July 27, a banner with a political message was displayed and anti-Semitic gestures were made,” Sky News reported. The Paris Olympics organiser told Sky News.
Paris 2024 strongly condemns all these actions and has lodged a complaint with the authorities to assist in the investigation.
This is not the first display of hatred
Israel coach Guy Luzon said this is not the first time the Israeli football club has faced such hate during this year’s Olympics. Last Wednesday, July 24, protesters waved Palestinian flags and criticized the team during their national anthem, before a match against Mali.
The coach said the team will use these performances as fuel to perform better.
