The mayor of Paris, France, has announced his intention to leave the Olympic symbol on the Eiffel Tower in place even after the Paralympics are over.

He spoke in an interview with a local newspaper published on the 31st of last month.

The current structure weighs around 30 tonnes and is too heavy to be installed long-term, so it will need to be replaced with a replica.

The idea is to make it a legacy of the success of the Games, but leaving it at one of the world’s leading tourist spots is likely to be controversial.
