Doha ∙ A group of Malayalees in Barwa Madinatana, Qatar, organized an Onam celebration under the name of ‘Safarihonam’ 24. Around 800 Malayalees who are residents of Madinatana participated in the program organized in Madinatana community.

Chendamelam performed by Dhvani Qatar added to the festivities with a specially set up stage with flowers, maveli and a special Onasadya. The program also featured various Onakalli like Onapattam, Tiruvathirakali, Uriyadi, Vadamvali etc. Shabir Hamsa, Reema Sachin, Meenu, Bineesh, Nishad led the Onakalli. From 6 pm onwards, a variety of artistic performances by family members and children were also staged.

Arun S Nair won the Aqua Sure Raffle Draw. Prizes for winners of various competitions were given by Afzal Cherichi, Dr. Jubin, Arun Thomas, Dhanya Ajith, Tasneema Faisal, Nimita, Ameena etc. Dhanya, Sunil, Rajini, Anina, Vysakh and others led the various art programs.

Shakira Afzal gave welcome speech at the official function. Convener Sameer Ahmad presided over the Valiyaveet. Waseef Facility Manager Raihan Umar, Property Supervisor Mona Hasan, Malabar Gold Deputy Head Yahya Ghafoor, Zonal Head Naufal Tadtil, Lulu Madinatina Branch Manager Indra, Gulf Madhyam Circulation Head Nabeel Marat, American Hospital Chairman Mohammad Iqbal, Goodwill Foodstuff MD Marwan Abdullah, Chaikada Restaurant representative Shani Shamir, Sabik Muthuwatil and others participated. Ashiq Mahi and Faumisa were the presenters.
