It has been decided that Daigo Nishihata (Naniwa Danshi) will appear in the new historical drama “New Abarenbo Shogun” (TV Asahi) starring actor Ken Matsudaira. He plays Ieshige, the eldest son of the main character, Tokugawa Yoshimune (Matsudaira).

A historical drama series in which Yoshimune, the 8th shogun who is highly regarded as a “great prince,” defeats various evils that plague Edo while blending into the lives of ordinary people as Shinnosuke Tokuda, also known as “Arata-san,” the third son of a poor hatamoto. The new work is set in the town of Edo more than 20 years after Yoshimune’s reign, and in the original series, Yoshimune, who was a young shogun, faces the issue of succession as he approaches his 60th birthday. Broadcast on January 4th next year at 9pm.

Ieshige, played by Nishihata, is the eldest son of a candidate for the next general, but due to illness he cannot move his right arm and is unable to speak smoothly. There are voices within the castle calling for his second son, who is both a literary and military veteran, to be his successor, and Yoshimune is also worried about the issue of succession. Meanwhile, Yoshimune goes to town as Shinnosuke and encounters a commotion, and meets Fukutaro Tokunaga, a man who wields a Western sword, the Rapier, with his left hand. In reality, his true identity is Ieshige, and like Yoshimune, he escaped from the castle and interacted with the common people.

Daigo Nishihata comment

–How did you feel when you received the offer?

“I was really surprised because I never expected to be chosen to play the eldest son of Yoshimune, played by Ken Matsudaira.I’m very happy to be able to be a part of a historical work that has been loved for so long.

Ieshige, the character I play, has a physical disability and is not well-received by those around him, despite being the eldest son of the Shogun family. Every day I take on the challenge of photographing, thinking about how much I can express his feelings as he lives life with various burdens on his shoulders.”

–What are your thoughts on your first collaboration with Ken Matsudaira?

“Matsudaira-san’s every word carries weight, and he gives a performance that makes you feel the history of playing Yoshimune over the years.I am trying my best to keep up with that.”
