The 113th episode of the NHK morning drama “Tiger with Wings” was broadcast on the 4th, and the scene in which the heroine’s daughter, Sada Yumi (Maita Nonno), delivers a powerful kick to her sister-in-law, Nodoka (Osaki Maka), drew a variety of reactions from viewers.
The morning drama “Wings of a Tiger” is based on the life story of Yoshiko Mibuchi, Japan’s first female lawyer who later became a judge. Actress Sari Ito plays the main character, Torako Sada, a judge at the Tokyo District Court. The drama’s 23rd week, “Starting like a virgin, then like a rabbit?” (episodes 111-115), aired in 1961, when Yuri (Yo Kimiko), a mother-in-law, slowly developed dementia and began to depend on the housekeeper Yoshimoto (Yamano Kai) to look after her on weekdays.
In the broadcast that day, Yuri threw away the stew for dinner, saying it was rotten, and started to act violently. Furthermore, when Yumi was worried about her dirty clothes, she hit her and told her not to touch it, and left the place. When Yumi, confused, tried to wash the pot, she noticed the smell of cigarettes coming from outside and opened the window, where Nodoka was hiding outside. Nodoka explained that she had not come inside because the house was busy, to which Yumi asked, “Is that why you hid instead of coming to help me?” Nodoka made excuses saying that she was exhausted today, but Yuri praised her as her proud granddaughter, saying, “I’m sure Grandpa and Teruko are very proud of you,” and stroked her head many times. However, Nodoka complained about the monotonous daily life of working as a bank clerk instead of going to art school as she had hoped, and let out her pent-up anger, saying, “Everything is going as I wanted, so please don’t ask me for more.”
Yumi had been listening in silence, but her anger exploded at Nodoka’s words. “You idiot! You idiot! You idiot! You idiot!” she yelled, shoving Nodoka away several times, eventually kicking her in the buttocks with all her might and running out of the house.
