The first exchange of opinions was held between Miyazaki Prefecture and animal protection groups in an effort to eliminate the euthanasia of animals.
The exchange of opinions with the prefecture was attended by 24 people from 14 animal protection groups active within the prefecture.
They actively voiced their opinions about problems they have noticed through their daily activities and what they would like the prefecture to do.
In response to the opinion that protection activities are not progressing smoothly at ports with a large number of stray cats, the prefecture responded that it would soon set up a forum for exchanging opinions with the prefecture’s port office.
According to the prefecture, 416 dogs and cats were euthanized in fiscal 2018, down from 172 last year. However, some animal welfare organizations in the prefecture are receiving 1,000 to 1,200 inquiries about taking in pets each year.
