Referreport
In 2023, Tesla reached a historic milestone: The Model Y became the best-selling car in the world – a title that was previously held for a long time by established car brands. That is why Mercedes-Benz is now planning a strategic attack to challenge Tesla for the crown. A crossover version of the electric CLA planned for the end of 2025 is to help with this. This is now reported by the website, which is usually well informed in the automotive industry. Automotive News.
Production start in October 2025
According to the report, production of the vehicle based on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, which is described as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, is scheduled to start in Germany in October 2025. The electric car is expected to hit the market as early as early 2026.
Crossover variant to replace EGQ
The report does not provide many details about the crossover variant itself. So far, all that is known is that the vehicle is intended to replace the EQB in the long term, which is said to be discontinued at the end of 2025 and will not have a successor. In terms of its appearance, the crossover is intended to appeal primarily to the younger generation, who have previously opted for the Tesla Model Y.
Range of up to 750 kilometers?
In terms of technical equipment, the crossover version of the CLA is expected to offer a range of 750 kilometers according to the WLTP standard and, thanks to a completely new drive train, consumes just 12 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers. Even if the battery is empty, that’s not a big problem: thanks to its 800-volt technology, the so-called hypermiler can absorb enough energy in just 15 minutes to drive another 400 kilometers.
