■Paris Olympics™ Athletics – Men’s 4x400m Relay Final (11th Japan time, Stade de France)

In the men’s 4x400m relay final, the Japanese team set a new Asian record of 2 minutes 58.33 seconds and finished in 6th place.

In the qualifying round, they also set a new Japanese record of 2 minutes 59.48 seconds. Japan, which had advanced to the finals for the first time in 20 years since the 2004 Athens Games, continued their momentum and beat that record in the final, rewriting both the Japanese and Asian records.

The first runner, Yuki Joseph Nakajima (22, Fujitsu), set the pace, and the second runner, Kaito Kawabata (25, Chukyo University Club), passed the baton to Fuga Sato (28, Mizuno), Japan’s third fastest runner in the 400m. The anchor was Kentaro Sato (29, Fujitsu), the current Japanese record holder in the 400m, who ran the final lap.

However, the gold medalist USA set a new Olympic record and the competition was at a high level, finishing in 6th place, falling short of the first ever medal.
