The Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) allows you to emulate a video arcade machine on your computer. MAME offers the possibility to entertain yourself or friends with classic video games from the 1970s and 80s. To use the games legally, you must own the original. However, a few ROMs are available for private users on the Manufacturer page are available for free download and can be played with MAME without any problems. These include Star Fire, Car Polo and Crash. These ROMs must be opened with the emulator and the fun can begin.
MAME can be started in command line mode, which displays a list of available commands and arguments. This allows you to adjust the display brightness, input devices, and video options applied to the emulator. Once you have a suitable game, you can launch the application interface from the executable and play the game. The interface is very simple and allows you to select games from a list or adjust player controls before starting the game. For ease of use, you can also use the mouse to quickly navigate through the options.
The emulator replicates the arcade machines in high detail and allows you to customize the display settings or the player controls. MAME is able to take snapshots of the video games to capture funny or interesting moments. Each game has specific requirements that are displayed when the application is launched. MAME should support any common computer, since the games were originally designed for machines with today’s very low processing power.
Tip: Even without a compatible smartphone, it is possible to try out a new version of Android. All you need is the English-language development environment Android Studio for your PC and you can then use it to create a virtual smartphone.
