Lokmanas: The market is a cruel teacher!

Refer Report

‘Bubble and sink A lot…’ read the headline (September 4). Currently, there is a boom in the capital market. If potential risks are not considered, unruly investors can be ruined. We have to look at the reasons why so much money is coming from the indigenous investors in the capital market.

At least to some extent, financial literacy has started to emerge. People are looking for investment options that offer higher returns. Obviously investors in the market are increasing and there are signs of increasing. The stock market, which has recovered from the post-Covid period, has attracted investors. He read and heard the stories of big investors who made wealth from the stock market. YouTubers added to it. An endless stream of get-rich-quick tips, day-to-day trading, speculation started and the number of investors began to grow.

Although these numbers are encouraging, the economy is still in a bleak state. A gross national income (GDP) rate of 6.7 percent underlines this reality. However, the turnover in the market is not according to these figures. The turnover of companies selling cereals, soap, toothpaste, tea, paints, chemicals to par burgers has also decreased. Small businesses are suffering because of market turmoil and wholesale tax cuts by the government. Employment generation has stagnated and the market is baiting this whole class to earn some income sitting at home. In a bull market, as soon as his predictions start to come true, the trader’s confidence is shaken, he starts taking more and more risks and trying desperately to get maximum returns.

Investing capital and building wealth from it is a long-term, disciplined and disciplined process. For that, one needs to stay on the pitch for two-three decades with patience. Investors who are new to the market after covid have yet to experience the big crash and its consequences, but every investor has to see a big crash at some point. In such a possible fall, one should be very careful that our life will not be broken forever. ‘Market is a cruel teacher’ should always be kept in mind.-CA Ankush Mestri, Borivali (Mumbai)

Whether ‘Investment’ or ‘Speculation’ should be considered

The bubble sinks Many…’ read the foreword. Many ordinary investors either don’t know or don’t understand the difference between the ‘real economy’ and stock market volatility. The term ‘equity investment’ itself actually implies a sense of ‘partnership’ and ‘involvement’ in the company’s future. But its true form is ‘Sattabazaar’! The urge to ‘invest money today and profit tomorrow’ seems to have turned the stock market into a giant ‘multilevel marketing’ bubble. No matter how much a company pays a hefty dividend, since it is based on the ‘face value’ of the stock, if such a stock is bought from the market at a higher price, the dividend return is negligible. However, the share is bought at a high price because it is certain (?) that someone else will buy the share from you tomorrow with more money. So it has become necessary for all to see how the maximum number of ‘buyers’ will keep turning to the market like ‘multilevel marketing’.

Many believe that investing in mutual funds is safer than investing in such markets. Even when all the shares in the market are skyrocketing, money is invested in a new mutual fund with the feeling that a unit of Rs.10 face value is available for only Rs.10. One does not realize that in reality that money is being poured into the sky-high market by such funds at that time. Currently investing regularly in mutual funds in the form of ‘SIP’ is said to be as good a financial habit or discipline as regular savings. In this the fund receives regular inflows but the outflows (dividends) are subject to market fluctuations! Everyone should think carefully whether it is really ‘right’ for them to put money in mutual funds instead of fixed deposits and similarly they should increase their financial literacy about what the bank has done with the fixed deposits, who gave the loan for what, what happened to the loan.-Prasad Dixit, Thane

A bulldozer is a symbol of instant justice

rein in the bulldozer Read this ‘Anvayarth’ (September 4). When the power goes to the head, the rulers start acting in the manner of ‘Hum Kare So Kaida’. Those who call themselves yogis have seen the same in Uttar Pradesh. It is the court’s job to decide who is the culprit, but to please his voters, Yogi started experimenting with justice directly through bulldozers. If the rulers and the administration started judging, then why do we need courts? Since Yogi, several governments in BJP-ruled states—Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh—started bulldozing justice. Finally Patna, Delhi High Courts and the Supreme Court also expressed strong displeasure over this.

Justice is a time-consuming process. Recently, the number of people demanding speedy justice has increased. Bulldozer is its symbol. It is more objectionable that the bulldozers operate by looking at who the criminals are, what caste and religion they belong to. It is necessary for the rulers to be aware that the state or the country cannot be managed with ‘Hum Kare So’ attitude.- Anant Borse, Shahapur (Thane)

Hateful politics should also be curbed

rein in the bulldozer Read this ‘Anvayarth’ (September 4). Government should not give shelter to unauthorized constructions. The Supreme Court also made it clear that there is no protection for unauthorized constructions while observing bulldozers. The real issue is what the government agencies were doing when the unauthorized constructions were standing. Be it Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh, lakhs of unauthorized constructions are standing on government as well as private lands. Unauthorized constructions came up and are still coming up only because of the alliance of politicians-bureaucrats-developers. But India is a country of equal constitution and leaders who make slogans like ‘Sabka Saath…’. There is rule of law here. Then the Supreme Court’s question becomes important whether it is necessary to bulldoze a person’s house/office just because he is accused, even if it is unauthorized. In this regard, the Supreme Court has decided to implement guidelines at the country level. If these principles are implemented, not only the bulldozer, but also the politics of hatred under the guise of laws will be reined in.- Prabhakar Dagaji Warule, Nashik

Teachers used to conduct activities only?

In general, Teacher The profession is considered respectable and community-building. They are expected to strive in a scholarly manner for the progress of the students. At present, it is happening due to lack of it. Teaching is becoming less and activity participation more. New ventures emerge. Beautiful school, backyard, reading together, taking pictures of them and sending them! In aided schools, teachers are paid more but the commitment of teachers is officer-centred rather than student-centred. In fact, separate cadres should be appointed for census and elections. This will give opportunity to many unemployed people. Even during vacations, teachers have the task of checking the answer sheets. In fact, it is not a holiday. It is necessary to take ‘quality test’ of the state government, education department itself. How aware most of the congregations are about teaching is a subject of research. Student interest is not possible by implementing only paper activities. If the councils working in this field are taken as consultants rather than the expert councils of the government, the non-academic tasks of the teachers can be definitely decided.- Vivek Pandit, Dombivli
