Leverkusen and Dortmund stumble – Bochum now last

Referreport

Bayer Leverkusen completely surprisingly lost a well-planned mandatory victory in the hunt for leaders FC Bayern Munich. Despite a 2-0 lead, the champions had to settle for a 2-2 (2-1) draw at home against newcomers Holstein Kiel. In fifth place, Leverkusen is two points behind Bayern, who will play the top game against second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday (5:30 p.m./DAZN).

Borussia Dortmund also suffered a bitter setback four days after beating Celtic Glasgow 7-1 and taking the lead in the Champions League. At 1. FC Union Berlin, coach Nuri Sahin’s team lost 1:2 (0:2).

For coach Peter Zeidler, the pressure continues to increase after VfL Bochum lost 1:3 (0:2) against VfL Wolfsburg. Bochum is still winless and is now bottom of the table behind Kiel with just one point. SC Freiburg celebrated a 1-0 (0-0) win at Werder Bremen.

The Leverkusen team dominated the initial phase against the outsiders from Kiel. Victor Boniface (4th minute) and Jonas Hofmann (8th) initially made things clear with their goals. But Max Geschwill (45th + 5) and Fiete Arp (70th) surprisingly equalized for the newcomer with a penalty kick. In the evening game, FSV Mainz 05 won 3-0 (2-0) at newly promoted FC St. Pauli with a brace from Jonathan Burkardt (5th/62nd) and a goal from Armindo Sieb (16th).

Dortmund overslept the initial phase

Dortmund got off to a very weak start in Berlin and were deservedly behind thanks to a penalty goal from Kevin Vogt (26th). Benedict Hollerbach had previously been fouled in the penalty area by national player Nico Schlotterbeck. Shortly before the break, Yorbe Vertessen (45th) increased the score to 2-0 for the hosts. Ex-Union player Julian Ryerson (62nd) shortened for BVB.

The Bochum team was initially unlucky. A hand penalty awarded was taken back after video evidence. And just a minute later Tiago Tomas made it 0-1. Jonas Wind (37th) scored VfL’s second goal. After the break, VfL came back to 1:2 through Myron Boadu (72′). Wind (88th) then made the decision in the margin after a hand penalty he missed himself.

In an uneventful game in Bremen, Ritsu Doan (75th) gave Freiburg the winning goal.
