[June 9, KOREA WAVE]South Korea’s only automatic match making machine and three-wheeled freight vehicle are expected to be designated as national reserve cultural heritage.
According to the National Heritage Administration, a “preliminary cultural heritage” system will go into effect in September to discover heritage sites that represent the people’s lifestyle, history, and culture and have sufficient future value. The preliminary cultural heritage system based on the “Act on the Preservation and Utilization of Modern and Contemporary Cultural Heritage” enacted in September last year discovers cultural heritage sites that have great future value, even though they were constructed, produced, or formed less than 50 years ago. Save and manage.
Prior to the implementation of the system, the National Heritage Agency held a public exhibition and questionnaire survey to “Search for Preliminary Modern Cultural Heritage Sites” for one month in May. As a result, a total of 361 modern and contemporary cultural heritage sites (13,195 items) were accepted in various fields such as living heritage, industry, culture and art.
The automatic match making machine, manufactured in 1982 by Seongkwan Match Industry Co. in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, is the only industrial heritage related to the modern match manufacturing industry left in the country. Matches were produced by soaking matchsticks in paraffin and gunpowder and drying them.
The Kia T-2000 is Japan’s only three-wheeled freight vehicle and was produced from 1967 to 1974. At that time, the T-2000 was a model mainly used by domestic self-employed people and transportation companies, and it remains in the nation’s memory as a “briquette delivery vehicle.”
In the field of culture and art, there is a handwritten manuscript of “Pulikippunnam” (Deep Rooted Tree), which was launched in March 1976 by Han Chang-ki, the representative of Britannica Korea.
“Prikippunnam” is one of Korea’s leading monthly magazines with up to 65,000 subscribers. It had a novel editorial design, which was unusual at the time, including creating a manuscript using only Hangul for a purely Korean title, and introducing horizontal writing for the first time in printed matter.
The National Heritage Agency will make a final selection of preliminary cultural heritage sites for the cultural heritage sites received through this public recruitment process, after conducting research on basic materials, consultation with local governments, consideration by experts in various fields, and deliberation by the Cultural Heritage Committee.
If it is selected as a preliminary cultural heritage site, it will receive the necessary technical and educational support for its preservation and utilization. The National Heritage Agency will consider registering cultural heritage sites that have been constructed, produced, or formed for more than 50 years.
