Five members of South Korea’s popular female idol group NewJeans held an emergency press conference in Seoul on the night of the 28th (Japan time) and announced that they would be terminating their exclusive contract with their label ADOR. . There was opposition to the dismissal of Min Hee-jin, the famous director who nurtured the group.
According to Yonhap News, ADOR expressed regret at holding a press conference for the five members and retorted, saying, “The exclusive contract is still valid.”
ADOR is under the umbrella of HYBE, which includes the popular male group BTS, and HYBE dismissed Min from his position as ADOR’s representative earlier this year. According to South Korean media, NewJeans requested Min’s return this month and declared that if the request was not accepted, the contract would be terminated.
They also complained that another label under HYBE imitated the group’s concept and that they were harassed by those involved. (joint)
