The graduation ceremony for the second batch of students from the SEA:ME (Software Engineering in Automotive and Mobility Ecosystems), a future automobile SW global talent training program jointly developed and operated by Kookmin University (President Seung-ryeol Jeong) and Volkswagen Group Woori Foundation (Chairman Till Scheer), was held at the Volkswagen Group Woori Foundation on Tuesday, August 13.
The students studied embedded systems, autonomous driving systems, and mobility ecosystem modules at 42 Wolfsburg, a non-profit coding education institute located in Germany, from July 2023 to June 2024. At the graduation ceremony that day, the students expressed their gratitude to the SEA:ME program, saying, “Through the SEA:ME program, I was able to nurture my dream of becoming a software developer and develop interest and expertise in the field of future automobiles.”
The students’ achievements were also diverse. Park Je-hyung, Seo Dong-hwan, Ko Da-hyun, and Kim Jun-ho from Kookmin University and Jeong Min-chan from Inha University participated in the ‘Bosch Future Mobility Challenge (BFMC) 2024’ held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania from May 18 to 19 and placed third. BFMC is an international autonomous driving competition in which autonomous driving algorithms are developed for 1/10th the size of a vehicle and driven in a designated environment. 80 teams participated. In addition, students participated in competitions such as the BCX (Bosch Connected Experience) Hackathon 2024 and the SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) Hackathon Challenge 2023 and achieved excellent results.
They also achieved remarkable results in employment and career paths. Students who completed the program were all employed by leading domestic and international automobile-related companies, including Hyundai Motor Company’s autonomous driving division and Volkswagen Group’s CARIAD sensor fusion internship.
Professor Shin Sung-hwan of Kookmin University (Dean of the College of Automotive Convergence), who is in charge of the overall operation of the program, said, “While developing and operating the automobile industry SW talent training program, I feel a sense of accomplishment as students show a clear improvement in their capabilities and their employment at domestic and foreign companies is progressing very smoothly.” He added, “I would like to express my gratitude to the Volkswagen Group Woori Foundation for their generous support in operating the program.”
