Kofukuji Temple to raise admission fees from April next year

Kofuku-ji Temple (Nara City) will increase admission fees for the national treasure To-kondo Hall and the National Treasure Museum from April 2025. This will be the first price increase in seven years since 2018.

The Tokon-do Hall is currently closed to the public due to the construction of a temporary roof for repairs to the National Treasure Five-Story Pagoda, but is scheduled to reopen in April next year, with admission fees for adults increasing from the current 300 yen to 500 yen. The National Treasure Museum, which houses the National Treasure Ashura statue and other statues, will increase the admission fee for adults from 700 yen to 900 yen. The admission fee for the Chukon-do Hall will remain the same for junior and senior high school students and above, but will increase from 100 yen to 200 yen for elementary school students.

In addition, the fee for a temple seal will increase from 300 yen to 500 yen, and parking fees will increase from 1,000 yen to 2,000 yen for passenger cars.

Kofukuji Temple explained that the change was made amid the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, including a decline in the number of worshippers and rising prices. The money will be used for repairs and maintenance of temple buildings and pagodas and Buddhist statues, and the temple asks for your continued support, saying, “We will do our best to pass on these precious cultural assets to future generations.”
