General questions at the Kochi Prefectural Assembly’s June regular session began on the 26th, and regarding the period of the comprehensive grant for measures to combat population decline that the prefecture has been implementing since this fiscal year, Governor Hamada stated his intention to “take into consideration national trends and the prefecture’s financial situation comprehensively.”

During the general question period that began on the 26th, Governor Hamada was asked by LDP member Doji Uejima about the aim of setting the project period for the Comprehensive Grant for Countermeasures against Population Decline over four years. He responded as follows:

(Governor Shoji Hamada)
“(Countermeasures against population decline) will not be completed in the next four years. Long-term efforts are necessary, and constant review is required. I believe that we must comprehensively consider the effects of projects up to fiscal 2027, the trends in national policies at that time, and the prefecture’s financial situation.”

Regarding the prospects for the continued operation of regular charter flights between Taiwan and Kochi, Governor Hamada stated that “it is essential to revitalize the economy by attracting inbound tourists,” and stated that in order to ensure the continuation of operations, “we will visit local airlines in July and continue to focus on sales activities.” The prefectural assembly’s regular session in June will run until Friday, July 5th.
