Berlin: Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmisch has been selected as the new captain of the German football team. Kimmisch succeeds Ilkay Gundohan, who announced his retirement last month. Real Madrid’s defender Antonio Rudriger and Arsenal’s forward Kai Hawats were selected as vice-captains. Germany will be under a new captain in the Nations League match against Hungary on Saturday and against the Netherlands on the 10th.

Kimmisch debuted in the German jersey in 2016. The star has the experience of leading the team in the absence of regular captains in the past. Kimmisch has played 91 matches for Germany and has worn the captain’s armband 17 times. Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gundohan retired from international football after the Euro Cup hosted by Germany.
