The editorial department of the boys’ manga magazine “Weekly Shonen Jump” has decided to hold a new “Jump Sports Manga Award.”
The judges will be three of the most popular sports manga artists of our time: Takehiko Inoue of “SLAM DUNK,” Riichirō Inagaki, the original author of “Eyeshield 21,” and Tadatoshi Fujimaki of “Kuroko’s Basketball,” as well as Shohei Ohtani, a baseball player for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Major Leagues.

“This new sports manga award aims to spread the power of sports, which brings courage and smiles to many people. To that end, we would like to have Shohei Otani, the best athlete, join the judging panel in addition to the three best sports manga artists,” the editorial department of Weekly Shonen Jump said in a heartfelt request, and Otani will join the judging panel.

This is the first time that a major leaguer has participated as a judge for the “Weekly Shonen Jump” manga award. The judges will read and comment on all of the finalist works, but what kind of work will Ohtani choose?

A new one-shot of “Kochikame” coming this summer!

For more information about the “Jump Sports Manga Awards”, please see the official Jump YouTube channel “Jump Channel” (https://www.youtube.com/@jumpchannel) and the announcement will be made on “Jump PRESS”, starting at 8pm on Monday, May 27th.

In addition, the program will also announce that a new one-shot story of the nationally popular manga Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo (written by Akimoto Osamu) will be published this summer. This is the first time in about a year since last summer that a new one-shot story has been published. This year is the Olympic year…it will be interesting to see if “that man,” a popular character that appears once every four years, will appear.

Additionally, the popular “Weekly Shonen Jump” series “SAKAMOTO DAYS” (by Suzuki Yuuto) will be adapted into a TV anime (broadcasting starting in January 2025), and the cafe collaboration with “Nue no Onmyouji” (by Kawae Kota) will also be announced in “Jump PRESS.”
