Italian forward Domenico Berardi, who plays for Serie A club Sassuolo and Italy, will miss Euro 2024 after suffering an Achilles injury in Saturday’s match against Hellas Verona, meaning his season is over.

Sassuolo announced on the 4th that a medical examination revealed that Berardi had a “complete rupture of the Achilles tendon” in his right leg. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on the 5th, but did not disclose how long he will be out.

Berardi, who has played 28 games for Italy and scored eight goals, was returning to the court after being sidelined with injury for around two months in the match against Verona.

Italy are in Group B at the month-long Euros in Germany, which begins on June 14, and will face Spain, Croatia and Albania. (c)AFP
