After more than two weeks, a senior official of the Israeli army commented for the first time about the deadly attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria on Monday, April 15 (27 August).
Daniel Hagari, the spokesman of the Israeli army, referring to the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, said: “There were individuals who were involved in terrorist acts against the state of Israel.” As far as I know, not even one diplomat was present there (Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria).”
However, Hagari did not specify whether his youth carried out the attack or not, but Iranian officials said that the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, on April 1, was carried out by Israel.
In this attack, at least 12 people, including seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two generals – Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi – senior commanders of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards were killed.
In response to the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, Iran launched hundreds of rockets and attack drones on Israel last Saturday night, but according to Israeli officials, 99% of these rockets and drones hit the target before reaching them. The air was destroyed.
Peter Lerner, spokesman for the Israeli Defense Ministry, said on Sunday that Iran attacked Israel with a total of 170 drones, 120 ballistic missiles and 30 cruise missiles. And he said that most of these rockets and drones were launched from Iran and some of them were launched from Iraq and Yemen towards Israel by Iran’s proxy forces.
Iran said that the attacks were carried out on Saturday in retaliation for Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria.
One day after these attacks, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, on Sunday, at the meeting of the Security Council of this organization, warned of a deeper conflict in the Middle East and said that the region and the world cannot tolerate more war. And the parties involved will be encouraged to exercise self-restraint.
