ISIS claimed responsibility for the deadly explosions in Iran

ISIS has said that two suicide bombers detonated their suicide bombers in the crowd.

The Islamic State group (ISIS) claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s deadly blasts in Iran, in which 84 people were killed and 171 others were injured.

These two explosions took place on Wednesday, January 3rd (Jadi 13) near the venue of the ceremony of Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in the city of Kerman, Iran.

On Thursday, January 4th (Jadi 14th), ISIS announced in a statement on the Telegram channel that two members of the group detonated their “suicide vests” at the Soleimani rally.

Qassem Soleimani was one of the staunch enemies of ISIS, and he was helping proxy forces supported by Iran in the Middle East in the war against ISIS.

The Iranian authorities initially said that the explosion was caused by bombs that were placed in two boxes and detonated from a distance. Then the Iranian state news agency (IRNA) reported that at least the first explosion was definitely a suicide attack and there is a high possibility that the second explosion was also a suicide attack.

Ahmad Vahidi, the Minister of Interior of Iran, on Wednesday, hours after the incident, said that the first explosion occurred at 3:00 PM in Kerman, and the second explosion occurred about 20 minutes later, at the exact time when the people and the rescuers. The victims and the injured of the blast rushed to help.

Earlier, some Iranian officials, including the Vice President of Iran Kishor, had said that Israel and the United States were involved in this attack, but American officials have rejected Iran’s claim.

Matthew Miller, the spokesman of the United States Department of State, called this claim by Iranian officials “ridiculous” and said: “The United States would not have been involved in this attack in any way.”

In the past, Iran has witnessed deadly attacks by Daesh and other extremist and terrorist groups, but the Iranian authorities have blamed Israel for these attacks in most cases.

In the PN’s deadly attacks, Iran’s Interior Minister said on Thursday that security measures have been intensified along Iran’s borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan. Iran’s long borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan have always been used by terrorist groups and human and drug trafficking networks.

Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, delayed his planned trip to Turkey due to this security incident and announced national mourning in Iran on Thursday, January 4th (Jadi 14). Iran’s leaders have warned that these attacks will be retaliated against.
