Refer Report
New Delhi: Writer Ramachandra Guha wants the people of India to hold their government accountable for helping the murderous Israel in the war. His reference is in the article written in ‘Scrolli’. On October 7, Hamas counterattacked into southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people. Soon after, the Israeli war began. Ramachandra Guha said that after the deadly attack that started that day has wreaked havoc in Gaza, it has now turned towards Lebanon and here too the attack is on innocent people.
Ramachandra Guha says that as the Indian people commemorate the first anniversary of the Israel-Hamas attack and talk about the massacre of innocent Palestinians, the Indian government should also be held accountable for providing assistance to the Israeli government. The International Criminal Court has found Israel and Hamas guilty of war crimes. The Israeli government’s war crimes are huge.
The first mistake made by the Indian government was not to support the United Nations General Assembly resolutions calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and Israel’s compliance with international law. He also pointed out that the second biggest mistake made by the Indian government was sending workers to fight in Israel.
The main reason behind India’s support for Israel is the decades-long friendship between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu. The second reason is that Israel attacks the Muslim community. It is also supported by radical Hindutva propagandists in India.
More than 50,000 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli army. 90 percent of them were ordinary people. More than 100,000 people were displaced from their homes. None of this reflects the true scale of suffering. I thought Israel would end the bombing in a few days or a few weeks. However, a year has passed since the brutal attack of revenge.
After wreaking havoc in Gaza, Israel is now opening fire on Lebanon. Here again no attempt is made to distinguish between terrorists and innocents. Attempts to exterminate specific individuals kill hundreds of Lebanese citizens and force many to flee.
The International Criminal Court found the Israeli government and Hamas guilty of war crimes. This is perfectly reasonable. The killings of civilians by Hamas last October cannot be justified or explained away. However, the crimes of the Israeli state are undoubtedly greater. It acted indiscriminately to exact revenge. Schools and hospitals were bombed, destroyed and leveled. In addition to killing tens of thousands of Palestinians, Ramachandra Guha exposed in the article that countless people were pushed to the brink of starvation by withholding or radically restricting the supply of food, water and electricity.
