Greater Manchester: Anugara Abraham (21), a trainee police officer from Whitefield, Greater Manchester, was found dead. Anu was found dead on the day he was to return to work after a holiday. The family revealed that Anugara Abraham had dreamed of the officer trying to strangle him and that he had been threatened by colleagues at work. Anugrah Abraham was called Anu by his relatives and friends.

The family also alleged that Anu had revealed that the officers had tried to beat her in training. Father Abraham Sr said the pressure to work as a trainee police officer in addition to an apprenticeship through Leeds Trinity University had worn him down, adding that his son had told him he had nightmares about the sergeant ‘sitting on his chest and trying to strangle him’.

Born in India and moved to the UK, Anu wanted to work as a policeman since childhood. He joined West Yorkshire Police in October 2021 but was posted to Halifax Police Station in April 2022 but the trouble started.

Anu, who was placed in one scheme before placement, was transferred to another scheme in February 2023. Anu said that she feels a lot of pressure at work and is always criticized.

In the days before his death, Anu told his father that he wanted to quit his job. Hospital records show that Anugara Abraham visited the doctor in June 2022 and complained of stress and anxiety. Anu had told her sister in December 2022 that she was thinking of quitting her job. He sought counseling in April 2023 complaining of mental problems, but got an appointment five months later.

Anu, who visited Amsterdam on a two-week holiday in February, had told friends about the stress at work. Anu was worried about returning to work after his return. Before leaving the family home on March 3, he had applied for other jobs.

After he did not return in the evening, an investigation was conducted and the next day he was found dead in a wooded area in Radcliffe. Police told Rochdale Coroner’s Court yesterday that the cause of death was suicide.
