The International Golf Federation announced the Olympic rankings on the 24th, and two Japanese women’s players, Yuka Sasao (23, Freelance) who placed 10th and Miyu Yamashita (22, Kaga Electronics) who placed 17th, have qualified to compete in the Paris Olympics.
This will be Sasao’s second big stage after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Last time, she competed as a representative of her mother’s home country, the Philippines, and this will be her first time representing Japan. Yamashita placed second in the U.S. Women’s Open, held until the 24th Japan time, her best major ranking ever, and won her first Olympic ticket after a fierce battle for entry.
There are 60 spots available for both men and women in Olympic golf, and Hideki Matsuyama (32) and Keita Nakajima (24) from Japan have already qualified to play.
