The first day of the Japan Championships, which also served as the qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympics, was held, and Tatsuto Nakagawa (25, Sato Foods Niigata Albirex RC) won his first men’s hammer throw with a personal best of 72.71m. Shota Fukuda (23, Sumitomo Electric), who is aiming for his second consecutive victory, came in third with a final throw of 70.90m.

Nakagawa marked 70.15m from his first throw, and improved his personal best by 66cm with a big throw of 72.71m on his second throw. His third throw was 70.66m, and he passed the preliminaries in first place. His fourth, fifth, and final sixth throws were fouls.
