In Albania, the refugee car fell into the river, eight people died

Albanian authorities said on Tuesday, April 2 (April 14) that seven people, who are suspected to be refugees, died in a car accident in the south of the country.

The incident happened in Parmat city near the Greek border when an Albanian driver lost control of the car.

Officials said that the police patrol wanted to stop the car to lock it, but the driver tried to escape and the car fell into the river beside the road.

Police said the occupants of the car had just crossed into Albania from Greece.

Thousands of refugees from Afghanistan, Syria and other poor Asian and African countries try to go to Europe through this route every year.

According to the data of the European Border Monitoring Agency (Frontex), between January and October 2023, approximately 100,000 refugees have passed through this route.
