The U-18 Nissin Foods Tohoku Block League, in which the best basketball teams from the Tohoku region compete against each other in a round-robin format, kicked off in Aomori Prefecture on August 31st.
From Iwate Prefecture, Ichinoseki Technical High School and Morioka Shirayuri Gakuen High School are participating in the boys’ competition and the girls’ competition.

The U-18 Nissin Food League is being held across the country by the Japan Basketball Association and Nissin Foods in an effort to strengthen the younger generation.

The Tohoku Block League will be in its second year following 2023, with 13 teams, both men’s and women’s, participating in 2024.

After losing their first match on the first day of the tournament, Ichinoseki Technical High School faced Akita Minami in the second match in the afternoon. They repeatedly stole the ball with solid defense and used it to launch quick attacks.

They dominated their opponents throughout the game and won with a 100-point score (100-69).

Meanwhile, Morioka Shirayuri Gakuen, which won its first match, faced Akita’s Yuzawa Shohoku on September 1st, scoring points with bold breakthroughs that made the most of their speed and technique.

They pulled away from their tough opponents towards the end of the game, winning 71-64 to record their second consecutive victory.

The Tohoku Block League will run until September 22nd.
