The presence of the “parents” who had the greatest influence
nailAlthough the character of my father in “I Loved All the Girls in My Classmate” is written in a humorous way, if this happened today he would definitely be arrested for domestic violence.
My father has recently started remembering those days and has started asking me, “You don’t hate me, do you?” He apparently read a little bit of my book and said, “Why are you writing such good things about me?”
SuzukiIt seems like he was a strict father.
nailI was born in the countryside of Kagawa Prefecture, where male superiority and female inferiority were prevalent. My father was an amateur wrestler and was strong enough to aim for the Olympics, but he lost in a close match. He was someone who suffered repeated setbacks like that.
He had returned to the countryside miserably with his dreams shattered, and the only way he could maintain his identity was by bullying his children. It was really like a bully had become a parent.
Usually, when “Rocky” is aired on Friday Road Show, the next week the bullies at school start bullying you by imitating boxing, right? In my house, that’s what my dad does to me (laughs).
SuzukiBut you’re still in contact, right?
nailWe get along well now. Apparently my dad got into adult videos after he retired, so I said I’d send them to him as presents, saying I had so many that they were getting in the way. But when he received the AV, he said, “I thought you were my son after all.”
When I asked him why, he said that the large amount of AVs he had received had been arranged alphabetically by the actresses’ names (laughs). My dad was a very meticulous person, so he was surprised when he opened it. He did it out of kindness, to make it easier for my dad to find what he was looking for (laughs).
SuzukiIt would have been nice if the AV I was in was included.

nailIt was a fairly new one…
SuzukiOh, I see, I appeared in it during the VHS era (laughs).
nailMr. Suzuki, were you influenced by your parents?
SuzukiI had a close relationship with my parents, especially my mother, and we got along well, but I do resent her to a certain extent. I had mixed feelings of love and hate. She was the woman who had the biggest influence on me, but she was also the person I wanted to defeat the most.
One of the motivations for writing was to go beyond my mother’s logic regarding appearing in adult videos. But I also felt like she had escaped by dying. When I was young, I wanted to get out of the realm of my parents’ understanding through my actions, and I became a delinquent.
