[July 1, KOREA WAVE]In March of last year in South Korea, a woman in her 50s got out of her car on the highway and was hit by a highway bus, resulting in her death. The woman’s husband and the bus driver were both sentenced to prison in connection with the incident.
The Daejeon District Court recently sentenced a bus driver (59) who was charged with violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling (resulting in death) to one year in prison, and her husband (66) who was charged with professional negligence resulting in death to two years in prison.
The bus driver is alleged to have been driving a bus on the Gyeongbu Expressway at around 9:25 a.m. on March 19 last year when he hit and killed a woman in her 50s who was standing behind a stopped vehicle.
According to prosecutors, the woman was traveling in a car with her husband when they got into an argument. After stopping the car, the two got out to switch seats and were hit by a bus.
The district court decided on the sentences for each of the defendants, taking into consideration the fact that the victims also shared a considerable degree of negligence.
