Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Syaiful Huda, is concerned about the series of bullying cases (bullying) in a number of schools that have occurred recently. He hopes that the government Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming have a program to delete bullying at school.
“We hope that the Prabowo-Gibran government will make the issue of bullying a priority so that a comprehensive response policy emerges,” said Huda in a written statement, Tuesday (3/9/2024).
Huda said that the public seemed to be terrorized by the case. bullying with various modes to the students. He assessed the completion bullying is still partial so that cases continue to emerge even though it has been declared as one of the three major sins in the realm of education.
According to him, currently it seems that bullying cases are only the responsibility of education stakeholders. In fact, he continued, there is a role for local governments, parents, and the community.
Huda revealed KPAI data which recorded the trend bullying continues to increase. During the pandemic in 2021 when education was carried out online, the recorded cases of bullying were only around 53 cases. This number then jumped to 226 cases in 2022.
“Bullying cases seem to be out of control when schools are conducted offline, where in 2023 there were at least 2,355 cases. Bullying “This includes physical violence, verbal violence, educational pressure, and sexual violence,” said Huda.
The Minister of Education and Culture’s Regulation is Not Optimal
According to Huda, the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture and Research and Technology (Permendikbud) Number 46/2023 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Educational Environments in practice has not provided optimal impact. Huda said that the PPKS Task Force and the PPKS Team, which were expected to be the spearheads of preventing and handling violence in educational environments, turned out to be less than sharp.
“For us, there are many things that need to be fixed in the operations of the PPKS Task Force and the PPKS Team, such as protection for reporters, the length of reporting administration, and transparency in handling cases so that they are on the side of the victims,” he said.
He also hopes that the Prabowo-Gibran government will make the issue of bullying in educational environments a priority program. In the future, said Huda, handling bullying must be a shared responsibility for the government, education providers, civil society, and the community.
“There must be reward And punishment for regional heads, heads of education offices, to school principals who succeed or fail to prevent bullying cases in their respective work units. In addition, the campaign on the dangers of bullying and its prevention programs must be carried out more massively because the impact is very large for our young generation,” he said.
