At around 5:46 a.m. on the 19th, an earthquake measuring 3 on the Japanese seismic scale occurred in Nemuro City, Hokkaido. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicenter was off the southeast coast of the Nemuro Peninsula, at a depth of about 80 kilometers. The magnitude of the earthquake was estimated to be 4.6 on the Richter scale. There was no tsunami.
At around 6:33 a.m., a magnitude 2 earthquake occurred in Erimo Town, Hokkaido, and Higashidōri Village, Aomori Prefecture.
