Japan’s average temperature this summer was 1.76 degrees Celsius higher than the annual average, making it the hottest summer on record.

According to a Kyodo News report on the 2nd, the Japan Meteorological Agency announced this, stating that it was the highest since statistics began being compiled in 1898.

It was recorded as the hottest summer for the second consecutive year, with the same average temperature as last summer.

The Korea Meteorological Administration explained that this figure was calculated as a result of comparing the average temperature this summer at 15 locations across the country with relatively little impact from urbanization with the annual mean (30-year average from 1991 to 2020).

According to the Asahi Shimbun, on July 29, the temperature in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture soared to 41.0 degrees Celsius, the highest this summer.
