Vice President Harris, the Democratic candidate for the US presidential election, participated in a rally with labor union officials in the battleground state of Michigan on the 2nd, Labor Day, and expressed her strong support for unions in her speech, saying, “Stronger unions will make America stronger.” She made clear her intention to target the labor union vote in order to beat Republican candidate and former President Trump.

On the same day, Harris also visited Pittsburgh in the eastern state of Pennsylvania, a battleground state, and participated in a rally with President Biden. With the Labor Day holiday over and the election campaign entering its final stages, she will do her best to dig up votes.

In a speech in Detroit, Michigan, Harris appealed for her efforts to improve the laws that support union activities. She criticized Trump, who favors the wealthy, for returning to power, saying, “We will return to an era when union members did not have the freedom to organize.”

The rally was attended by leaders of the United Auto Workers (UAW), a large labor union based in the area, and the American Federation of Teachers, who showed their support with applause. (Kyodo News)
