It was revealed on the 28th that the government will launch a full-scale response to the growing problem of slander against athletes. Approximately 200 million yen will be included in the Japan Sports Agency’s 2024 supplementary budget proposal for related expenses, such as support for injured athletes when they take legal action and support for setting up a consultation desk. We will collaborate with the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), the Japanese Paralympic Committee (JPC), and others to work out specific measures.

In the “Sports Basic Plan,” a guideline for national sports measures that is published every five years, a proposal has emerged that will be mentioned in the next plan starting in fiscal 2027. The government is also considering strengthening measures to address the issue of athletes being photographed with sexual intent. As the number of situations that threaten athletes is increasing, the government and the sports world are working together to ensure that athletes can compete with peace of mind.
