[June 28, Oriental Daily News]Giant pandas Yun Chuan and Xin Bao arrived in Los Angeles, California, USA on a chartered flight on June 27 and were then transferred to the San Diego Zoo in Southern California. They will be put into quarantine for about a month before being made public.

“Yunchuan” is a male born on July 28, 2019. “Xinbao” is a female born on July 23, 2020. The two departed from the Ya’an Bifengxia Base of the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center in Sichuan Province on the evening of the 26th local time and departed for the United States on a chartered flight from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.

To ensure the health and safety of the pandas during the flight, the Chinese side provided fresh bamboo, bamboo shoots, fruits, vegetables, specially made cornmeal (steamed food) and drinking water, and a total of five experienced keepers and veterinarians from both China and the United States accompanied the pandas.

The move for Yunchuan and Xinbao went smoothly. After arriving at the San Diego Zoo, experts from China will stay with them for about three months to help them adapt quickly to their new environment.

The San Diego Zoo is one of the most visited zoos in the United States, and is also the first American facility to conduct research cooperation with China on giant pandas. The arrival of Yunchuan and Xinbao marks the start of a new cooperation between China and the United States on giant panda conservation. (c) Oriental Daily News / AFPBB News
