Minister of Foreign Affairs of the member countries of the Haft Group in the meeting of the group in the island of Capri in Italy
The German Foreign Minister, on Thursday, April 18 (30 April), said that the Haftar group should respond to Iran’s attack on Israel and added that he is considering measures with his counterparts in a meeting in Italy.
Annalina Birbak, speaking to reporters on the island of Capri in Italy, said that the members of the group were discussing the “measures of the group of seven” and that “an answer to this unexpected event” should be given. He added that the tension “is deadly for the people” and should not increase further in the region.
This meeting continues on the island of Capri in Italy, with the presence of the foreign ministers of countries that are members of the G7 or the G7 economies – France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Canada, Japan and the United States.
According to an Italian diplomatic source, it is expected that the G7 members will demand sanctions against individuals who are involved in the missile production chain in Iran.
After the Iranian consulate in the city of Damascus, the capital of Syria, was placed on April 1st for air strikes, if Iran blames Israel for the attack, it will launch hundreds of missiles and drones on Israel on April 13th. According to the American and Israeli officials, 99% of these rockets and warships would have been intercepted and destroyed in the air before hitting the ground.
Iranian authorities have said that they do not intend to continue such operations against Israel, unless Israel attacks Iran’s goals and interests again.
But Israel, despite the fact that there were no casualties in Iran’s attacks, says that in order to preserve its credibility, it must retaliate against Iran’s attack, and the G7 countries have also pledged to support Israel.
European Union leaders also agreed on Wednesday that they will impose new sanctions against Iran’s drone and missile manufacturers due to Tehran’s latest attack on Israel.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who was present at the G7 summit, said on Thursday in Capri that they would review the sanctions system for “expansion and efficiency”.
Borrell added that if, from July 2023, European companies impose restrictions on exports to Iran in the category of “components that allow the production of this type of weapons”, these restrictions will increase. Burrell emphasized that what is important is the “implementation of the decision”.
The head of foreign policy of the European Union called for Israel’s self-restraint, adding that the region is “on the brink of war”.
The United States, which is Israel’s ally, says that it will soon impose new sanctions on Iran’s missile and drone program, adding that it is waiting for the allies to do the same.
Group G Haft, following these talks on the situation in the Middle East, the Houthi group had another meeting on the campaigns in the Red Sea. Due to the attacks of the Houthis group on the ships, there is a disruption in the shipping traffic.
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine will also be one of the important topics at the G7 meeting, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Koliba and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg are scheduled to join the talks today.
Italy, which chairs the G7 group, announced that the G7 foreign ministers will also discuss stability in the Indo-Pacific region and topics including infrastructure connectivity, cyber security, artificial intelligence and the fight against fake news. The agenda of this meeting is included.
