German hospital donates to support Vietnam in fighting the COVID-19 epidemic

According to a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Germany, during a recent business trip to Leipzig city, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu updated the epidemic situation in Vietnam, in which there are thousands of new infections every day and Ho Chi Minh City. Minh is the locality that is most heavily affected, and requested the city government as well as local agencies and organizations to consider supporting anti-epidemic efforts in Vietnam.

Dr. Iris Minde, Director of St. Georg emphasized that only by working together can we successfully deal with the current pandemic, therefore, St. Georg, who last year also received support from Vietnam, quickly and easily came to the decision to support Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City – the sister city of Leipzig. The amount of aid donated from establishments, hospitals and organizations includes many boxes of masks, protective gear and rapid test kits worth 60,000 euros (more than 71,000 USD). The donation was made quickly thanks to the cooperation of the Leipzig City Economic Promotion Agency and the city’s International Cooperation Department, and will be transferred to Vietnam at the end of August. In addition, the city of Leipzig also supports connections so that Vietnam can buy necessary medical equipment directly from manufacturers.

Leipzig is a sister city to Ho Chi Minh City. In recent times, the two sides have established and developed a close cooperative relationship in many fields. St. Hospital Georg and Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi Minh City have been partners for many years and have effectively implemented short-term training programs, exchanging expertise and experts in Vietnam and Germany… Mayor Leipzig city, Mr. Burkhard Jung highly appreciated the cooperative relationship between the two cities, and pledged to continue accompanying the two hospitals in upcoming cooperation projects.

In a related development, according to the August 4 announcement of the World University Support Organization (WUS), the second phase of Vietnam’s aid to fight the epidemic includes 203,505 rapid COVID-19 test kits worth 598,000 euros.
