On March 25, during a visit to Egypt, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for increased humanitarian assistance and an immediate ceasefire, saying Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip were living in “fear and hunger.”

Guterres urged Israel to desist from planning a ground invasion of the southern city of Rafah, where many residents have fled.

He said Gaza’s 2.4 million residents were living a “non-stop nightmare” and that “the world recognizes that it is long past time to put down the guns and establish an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.”

They also called on Israel to allow humanitarian aid trucks to enter Rafah, where they say supplies are stuck.

The Israeli army responded on social media, urging the UN to step up logistics and saying they should “stop blaming Israel for their own failures.” (c)AFP
