Gaganyaan Astronaut: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) recently successfully launched the Chandrayaan-2 mission. Then the ambitious Gaganyaan mission was announced. Briefing about the Gaganyaan astronauts, he said that to become an astronaut, the concerned candidate must first be a skilled pilot. These pilots want to train new candidates as well as have the ability to fly any helicopter and fighter jet.

A different world is introduced while training as an astronaut. So the candidate comes back from the role of a soldier to a student. An astronaut has to get used to constantly learning new things, says S. Somnath said.
What does it take to become a spaceman?
Being a good astronaut requires a good mix of technical skills and physical agility. Astronauts must have knowledge of engineering, mathematics, aerospace and mechanics. Candidates with such knowledge will then be briefed on the advanced knowledge required for ISRO. So these candidates will be as capable as ISRO scientists.
The names of four astronauts have been announced for the Gaganyaan manned space mission. Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Subhanshu Shukla have been announced recently and this is India’s first batch of astronauts. All four have experience as trained pilots, making them suitable candidates for the Gaganyaan mission.

Successful Indian space mission
