[May 31, AFP]May 30th is International Potato Day, designated by the United Nations (UN). A new date was set in December 2023, making this year the first International Potato Day.
Potatoes are eaten daily in many countries. This important food crop contributes to food security and livelihoods for people around the world, and also helps create jobs.
Peru boasts one of the world’s largest producers of potatoes, and on this day, a wide variety of potatoes were lined up on the market. As Irish potatoes are widely grown in Malawi, Africa, a commemorative event was held with the attendance of the Irish Ambassador to Malawi. (c)AFP
